Oh my! A quote that mismanages the meaning of “good”. Good is a concept that is embraced by Christians not owned by them. Striving for good is like living a life… a continual process (with ups and downs) that ends in death. Christians just anticipate a reward for the effort and devoutness has nothing to do with how well good has been expressed/achieved. To understand ‘the good’ best, Aristotle expanded the concept in a genius fashion. 🙂 Thanks for making me think!
Susan, Christians tell us that their god is the source of “good” and is the definition of “good”. Their problem is that they can’t show this to be the case. Christians can’t decide what their god considers good, and all come up with contradictory nonsense.
Thanks for your comment.
Well, I understand the confusion.
I believe they (if they are articulate) actually understand God to be “good” and sent ‘his son’ to show us goodness. Like “love” the concept is hard to define but each of us know it when we feel it. How would you “show” what love is using the scientific method? (You see the result of love but can you explain where in our bodies it comes from?)
But yet it exists and no one has to prove it for it to exist.
Good exists… evil too.
If we know this, how did that happen? I find not knowing where, or how, beautiful miraculous things came to exist (and our ability to percieve beauty and love)a pretty convincing case for God… unless you have a better one. 😉
I would agree that I konw what love is. It isn’t threatening death and worse on those who disagree with you.
Love come from chemicals in the body. No magic needed. And I have plenty of evidence love exists. I’ve been married for 30+ years to a wonderful human being.
No evidence for any god or any magical evil. There is certainly harm greed, willful ignorance, etc. That believers can’t even agree on what morals their various gods want shows that it’s all just made up.
The argument from beauty fails as soon as you see a parasitic worm in a child’s eye.
I understand. Some people stop asking questions when they hear what they want. Think layers or a persistent child who asks “why?” to each answer they’re given. There are obviously varying degrees of curiosity among people. Best wishes. 👍
well, that was a non answer.
😀 Just keep asking “why?”. You’ll find me waiting for you at the “Nobody knows.” spot. LOL
alas, christians don’t ask why. They claim to know. And when they are questioned, they then seem to find their ignorance.
How about you take a break from conclusively defining others as homogenous groups and focus on telling the world who YOU are? It may be a better approach … and it’s sure to be more accurate. [ Sounds like some particular Christians have hurt you. Don’t worry … most secure and happy people don’t care how they’re defined by others.]
Hope you find peace… God Bless. ❤
Sorry, Susan, I have no problem in pointing out what Christians do. I can do that and tell the world who I am.
Nope, Christians didn’t “hurt” me. Tht is a common Christian claim made in order to pretend that they can ignore what a non Christian says since they can convince themselves it is only “emotional”.
Thanks for trying to falsely imply that I’m not “secure and happy”.
You’re quite welcome. 🙂
Always happy to provoke thought 🙂
You know I love this. Definitely! The last line pretty much says it all.
IKR?
Interesting quote
I thought so, too.
