This came out in 1971…. sigh
While I don’t appreciate some of the lyrics…most is still so very relevant

“I thought of just your face
Relaxed, and floated into space”-Blue October, Into the Ocean
Since I stole used a few words from this song as the title of my upcoming post
(currently editing as i went off on a bit of a rant)
… it has been stuck in my head so I’m posting it for you all to enjoy 🙂
Lyrics are posted below. Beautiful poetry!
The Dangling Conversation by Simon & Garfunkel
Time is merely a concept
a construct
a way of accounting, if you will
Sometimes we say time flies
other times it drags on and on
or so We say…
Time passes as it will and does not rely on or cater to us
The only thing we can control
is how we spend our time

A Hazy Shade of Winter by Simon & GarfunkelFull lyrics:Time, time time, see what’s become of me
While I looked around for my possibilitiesI was so hard to please
Don’t look around
The leaves are brown
And the sky is a hazy shade of winterHear the Salvation Army band
Down by the riverside’s, there’s bound to be a better ride
Than what you’ve got plannedCarry your cup in your hand
And look around
Leaves are brown, now
And the sky is a hazy shade of winterHang on to your hopes, my friend
That’s an easy thing to say
But if your hopes should pass away
Simply pretend that you can build them again
Look around
The grass is high
The fields are ripe
It’s the springtime of my lifeSeasons change with the scenery
Weaving time in a tapestry
Won’t you stop and remember me
At any convenient time?
Funny how my memory skips while looking over manuscripts
Of unpublished rhyme
Drinking my vodka and lime
I look around
Leaves are brown, now
And the sky is a hazy shade of winter
Look around
Leaves are brown
There’s a patch of snow on the ground
Look around
Leaves are brown
There’s a patch of snow on the ground
Look around
Leaves are brown
There’s a patch of snow on the ground
The writing prompt at Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie was …”This week think about what meaning/s you can come up with for the word “carry”. We carry all sorts of things in a multitude of ways. Luggage, a load, groceries, a team member, a loved one when they are unwell and need us to carry them from one spot to another. Let your imagination guide you and have fun.”
So normally I would just write something….BUT
The first thing that popped in my head was this poem..so I went looking and actually found it being read by the poet himself!
This song also popped into my head because I always think of it in relation to my best friend. (NOTE: Love the song but this video doesn’t work for me with it..LOL BUT it is the official video so….)
And because this is a WRITING prompt…here is my contribution
Always
I did not carry you in my womb
nay, you are not from me
yet you are of me
let my love be mother’s milk to you
take the offered nourishment
and as it strengthens you
it strengthens me
⋅
love and acceptance
always

I love this song… I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I’ve listened to this…and i have to sing along…loudly/badly.
If you have heard it and don’t like it… you could skip it or you could listen again and/or read the lyrics and you might change your mind 🙂
If you know it and love it: you’re welcome
If you’ve never heard it: you’re welcome and know 2 things
1- it starts off soft and slow but give it a minute 😉
2- Listen Loud
