Such a fun song to sing along! A Simple Desultory Philippic (Or How I Was Robert McNamara’d Into Submission) by Simon & Garfunkel

A Simple Desultory Philippic (Or How I Was Robert McNamara’d Into Submission) by Simon & Garfunkel

I been Norman Mailered, Maxwell Taylored
I been John O’Hara’d, McNamara’d
I been Rolling Stoned and Beatled ’til I’m blind
I been Ayn Randed, nearly branded
Communist, ’cause I’m left-handed
That’s the hand I use, well, never mind
I been Phil Spectored, resurrected
I been Lou Adlered, Barry Sadlered
Well, I paid all the dues I want to pay
And I learned the truth from Lenny Bruce
And all my wealth won’t buy me health
So I smoke a pint of tea a day
I knew a man, his brain was so small
He couldn’t think of nothing at all
Not the same as you and me
He doesn’t dig poetry
He’s so unhip that when you say Dylan
He thinks you’re talking about Dylan Thomas
Whoever he was
The man ain’t got no culture
But it’s alright, ma, everybody must get stoned
I been Mick Jaggered and silver daggered
Andy Warhol, won’t you please come home?
I been mother, father, aunt and uncled
Been Roy Haleed and Art Garfunkeled
I just discovered somebody’s tapped my phone
Folk rock
I’ve lost my harmonica, Albert

Time

“Time, time time, see what’s become of me
While I looked around for my possibilities…”
~A Hazy Shade of Winter by Simon & Garfunkel

Time is merely a concept

a construct

a way of accounting, if you will

Sometimes we say time flies

other times it drags on and on

or so We say…

Time passes as it will and does not rely on or cater to us

The only thing we can control

is how we spend our time

A Hazy Shade of Winter by Simon & Garfunkel
Full lyrics:
Time, time time, see what’s become of me
While I looked around for my possibilities
I was so hard to please
Don’t look around
The leaves are brown
And the sky is a hazy shade of winter
Hear the Salvation Army band
Down by the riverside’s, there’s bound to be a better ride
Than what you’ve got planned
Carry your cup in your hand
And look around
Leaves are brown, now
And the sky is a hazy shade of winter
Hang on to your hopes, my friend
That’s an easy thing to say
But if your hopes should pass away
Simply pretend that you can build them again
Look around
The grass is high
The fields are ripe
It’s the springtime of my life
Seasons change with the scenery
Weaving time in a tapestry
Won’t you stop and remember me
At any convenient time?
Funny how my memory skips while looking over manuscripts
Of unpublished rhyme
Drinking my vodka and lime
I look around
Leaves are brown, now
And the sky is a hazy shade of winter
Look around
Leaves are brown
There’s a patch of snow on the ground
Look around
Leaves are brown
There’s a patch of snow on the ground
Look around
Leaves are brown
There’s a patch of snow on the ground

Play it Loud

Play It Loud

Music for me is a visceral experience

I must feel it running through my veins

I must feel it tense my muscles

When I feel the music running strongly enough through my body,

only then do I feel my spirit lifted

It is only through the connection to my body

that I feel the spiritual experience of music

New page to Highlight Featured Friends

Found this beautiful image on several sites yet no idea who to credit.

Found this beautiful image on several sites yet no idea who to credit.

Hi All!

As some of you read awhile back I added a Featured Friends section on my home page.  I have added a few more people to that section and decided to also create a separate page for this as well.  You can find it next to Home, Awards & Who is Responsible for This? (my about me page)

Again, please don’t be offended if you are not on this list. I will revise as I go along 🙂

My goal here is to just a highlight just a handful of people who:
-actively participate (comments etc)
-whose talent I admire
-who inspire me

I “follow” quite a few blogs but the following are ones that I have truly connected with.

They are a diverse group offering everything from poetry to photography and humor to artwork.

Please visit each of these amazing people. There is something for everyone. Enjoy!

~Melanie
